I'm just curious... 'famous' doesn't need to be 'world famous', but perhaps 'well known in the right circles'.  Mine's a small group...

In no particular order for myself:

1)  Barbara Bush

2) Christopher Shy (of Ronin Studios fame)

3) Sean Yseult (former bassist for White Zombie)

4) I could argue my former CO, I suppose, since he was in The Wire for a season (and, apparently, Homicide: Life on the Streets)

... I don't think I'm forgetting anybody.  Kind of a short list, I know.

Neil Gaiman
Terry Pratchett
Michael Pondsmith (R Talsorian Games)
Hmm... that's all I can think of.

Old. I should note that I was in 3rd grade at the time. ;)

1) Tina Weymouth (of Talking Heads fame).

2) Every member of The Toasters, Less Than Jake, and MXPX.

3) Alan Brantley (The criminal profiler who interviewed every major serial killer in the past 30-40 years).

4) Leonard Hayflick (The scientist who came up with The Hayflick Limit).

5) Oh and Miss America...1980-something.

At this moment I realize just that I have met an interesting swath of famous folks.

I met Richard Hatch(Apollo on the original BSG) at a convention here in Victoria. I was in the washroom cleaning off zombie makeup, and he was at one the urinals. He asked me some questions about Victoria, and said it was very beautiful.

At the same convention, I had two run-ins with Michael Sheard, who played Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back. The first time I spoke to him, I was walking around the dealer room around 7:30AM waiting for my security shift to start at 8. He was there promoting his book, 'I, Admiral'. He asked me if the jug of applejuice I had was cider. At 7:30 in the morning. My second encounter with him was when I was at one of the doors, making sure people didn't sneak in, and he asked me where he could find a good pub. I directed him to the Sticky Wicket just up the street.

I just remembered that at the same convention I met Brinke Stevens(70's/80's Hollywood Scream Queen, she was in the original Slumber Party Massacre), and got two hugs from her, one when she signed a poster I had of her, and another at the after-party.

At a con in Toronto I met Adam Baldwin, and had my picture taken with him(he is freaking tall! and very nice). At the same convention I played Zombies with one of the original playtesters of the game. He was very surprised when my wife and I played so that one of us would win, and not to the benefit of the other players. He seemed to think the game was supposed to be played with everyone working together to defeat the zombie hordes. However, there's only room on that chopper for one person.

Oh, I forgot about Robin Black & The Intergalactic Rock Stars! I met them the frist time when they played a shitty little sports bar in Welland ON, then saw them again a year later at The Underground in Hamilton. They remembered us and stuck around after the show to hang out, it was great. He's one of the nicest people I've met, so great to his fans. Also at the Welland show we met everyone in The Flairs, an awesome chick-rock band out of Vancouver, also very nice.

I've met a few interesting people through official events. I've gotten autographs from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and I've met a couple of anime-industry people through Anime Central. Very few that way, actually - my staff position has basically no contact with guests, and the two or three years when the Staff/Guests meet-and-greet time has not happened when I had a ton to do, most of the guests hadn't arrived yet. I did get to nod at Kenichi Sonoda (creator of Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats, among other things) when he came to watch videos late at night in what I suspect was a bout of jetlag-induced insomnia.

The only famous person I can really claim to know is Michael C. Hall, star of Six Feet Under and Dexter. We lived on the same dormitory hallway my first year of college, and while we weren't close friends I'd say we were on generally friendly terms - knew each other's names, said hello in passing, that sort of thing.
